Even though it sounds more like a new reality TV show from the creative geniuses who brought us Splash, the 2013 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race is one of the highlights of our year here at Tansky Sawmill Toyota. After all, what's not to love about the marriage of our favorite A-listers with our favorite new and used cars? Well on the off chance that this is all coming as news, allow us to catch you up to speed.

Dealership owners Tom and Judy Tansky emphasized meeting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards' gold level for the project first proposed in late 2009.

The project launched Thursday during a groundbreaking ceremony. Earth-friendly aspects include use of renewable materials such as bamboo, energy efficient HVAC and electrical systems, and the use of rainwater to flush toilets and supply water to its car wash. Turner also has pledged to recycle more than 75 percent of the construction debris.

The dealership and its design-build team are not the only ones promoting sustainable design. The $13 million London Middle School just received platinum certification and the highest level possible. Architects at SHP Leading Design of Cincinnati designed that 75,000-square-foot project, which the Columbus office of Quandel Construction Group built. The Union County project features a geothermal heating and cooling system, solar tubes and light baffles to bring daylight into the school's interior, and 20 acres of prairie grass as part of a habitat restoration program. The project is designed to save up to 40 percent on its use of electricity and water.
