How does Toyota commemorate 15 years of excellent manufacturing? By throwing a big bash for the town that put forth such talented employees, of course. Toyota recently hosted a giant party to show their appreciation for the West Virginia manufacturing facility's 15 years of outstanding work. However, the facility's workers decided to use this celebration as an opportunity to give back to their town for supporting the plant's efforts.
In particular, the employees at TMMWV (Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc.) collected donations to give to several non-profits and other organizations within the community. These contributions totaled nearly $100,000. "Toyota supports the communities where it does business, not only monetarily, but, also, through volunteer efforts by our team members," said Mike Lutz, General Manager, TMMWV.1
Some of the organizations that received these donations were the Multifest Cultural Festival ($22,000), Marshall University ($32,000), City of Buffalo ($8,000), Buffalo Fire Department ($15,000), Eleanor Fire Department ($15,000), and the Putnam County Career & Technical Center ($10,000). Of course, none of this would be possible without the skilled workers that Toyota employs at the plant.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc. was originally founded in 1996, when it employed about 250 workers. Since then, Toyota has gone on to quadruple the plant's production capacity, increasing its workforce as well. Now the plant, which has produced nearly 8.6-million transmissions in its lifetime, employs over 1,000 workers.
